Our first fall canyon fishing trip was a great success, we were a two boat trip with Guy Billings and myself as guides. Our guests were a father, daughter and two son family. We celebrated Jim’s (father) 70th birthday at Black bar Lodge with a really cute cake that Guy carefully guided down the rapids.
The river was beautiful, the water is very clear this year thanks to the dam removals. We saw 8 bears and lot’s of fish. The last week of August was cool with temperatures in the mid 80’s due to this the river cooled and the fish were very active. On our trip the weather was back in the high 90’s and the water temperature was near 70 but fishing was still better than I’ve seen in quite a few years. We caught salmon the first day, day two was so, so each boat caught over 15 half pound steelhead, then day three was off the charts, we honestly lost count catching two at a time hooking fish before the line was even out it was amazingly good and really fun! I can only imagine how good it will be when the water cools.
