Oregon Chinook Salmon fishing this year has been unbelievable! Although the weather (water conditions) have forced us to cancel a few trips, the trips we have made qualify for the record books…
On Wednesday we fished a crew of seasoned salmon fisherman. Some of these guys have been fishing with RRO for over 25 years and have seen the Columbia River and Willamette River at its “best” and “worst”. By 10:00 am we had 4 of those elusive Oregon Chinook Salmon in the boat.
All of us were fairly certain that was the end of the bite for the day and with memories of this fishery from the past, we realized what a special thing it really is.😐
A few of the our crew started spreading the word by cell and text on their success. One of the guys (we will not mention his name, to protect the innocent) was so intent on bragging rights over the phone, he did not notice his rod had bent in half and he had hooked up again. Despite everyone yelling at him and all the normal ribbing and commotion he finally picked his rod up and believe it or not, the fish was still there!
These guys had been blessed by the “Chinook gods” and seemed to do no wrong! They ended up the day around 2:00 and had gone 6 for 6. Now that’s a memorable day! They headed home to grill some fabulous fresh salmon fillets.
Most every day has been great but for the weather, it would have been a terrific season. Easily one of the best we have ever had. Our 2012 bookings are starting to reflect it. Those that have gone are re-booking and I guess the word is out to the rest. We know it’s a year away but we would recommend you book for next year asap, the seats are filling up already.🙂

PS. Also another quick update: Denny Hughson (aka Dad) and I have joined forces on the Rogue River. We just created a combined website. Check it out at www.roguefishingguides.com . This site will allow us to work together and give our clients the best options for the Rogue River Fishery. Now we cover the Rogue River with nearly 100 years of combined experience!
PPS: One of the guys just called to say that was the best tasting salmon he had ever eaten.
