We have just finished our second trip on the Deschutes River…. According to Orvis this last week on facebook, the fishing has been terrific…
Head down to the Middle during the warmest afternoons this week. The stonefly don’t like cold or rain, so they are less likely to be active in the a.m. The evenings can be great too, as the big bugs migrate upstream.
We are here to say, Orvis could not have been more right. The weather has been hit and miss, cold nights, high winds, rain, with a few sun breaks, but one thing has remained consistent GREAT FLYFISHING…🙂
Paying good money to be out in these conditions you must be crazy, and then you hook-up with a Deschutes River Redside… Everthing works and for that moment you could be in the middle of a tornado and it would all seem right!
The Salmon Fly hatch came out around the first of May, and the “Big Bug Fishing” is still on… Next we expect great small bug fishing, the mayflies are out thick and one thing that has really been a surprise is the Caddis Flies are about 14 days early for their major hatch… I mean the Caddis Flies are “INSANE”!
The Guides this year on the Deschutes: Guy Billings is back (aka Stir Fry Guy) we have Tim Conway (aka Tiny), Bob Bryant (aka Cowboy Bob) and Tom Davidson (aka Fireman Tom). Although the word is Greg Henderson has retired he can’t stay away from the Deschutes very long… So special guest appearances will be made by aka “Coach Henderson”. If it is your first or hundredth time down the Deschutes you will always learn something new from Greg we are happy he is here…
Camp fires are still allowed on the Deschutes this time of year. So after a cold day on the water, and after some of the World Famous Deschutes River Fried Chicken or Jonny’s World Famous Steak. We sit by the camp fire and talk about the day… Reported to be some of the best fishing on the Deschutes that Craig has seen in nearly 25 years, well you can bet there is a lot to talk about…🙂
Small bugs should be out in force in June, just a couple of dates left, give us a call… We will try to save a few of the Redsides just for you!
