I do not know if you have noticed the last few posts my mind has been over east on the Deschutes. I’m very excited about the up-coming Deschutes Fly Fishing season, but the last few trips here on the Willamette, fishing for Chinook Salmon has brought my focus back to the valley.
We have not had less than four opportunities per day for the past week. It has been great fishing. The photo above is Jeff and Amy Ambsberry. This day we went 5 for 7 and the two we sent back were natives.
Tuesday was another great day landed 4. Stormy as all get-out but the fishing keep us warm. Word is they are doing very well under the Sellwood Bridge, I think the Salmon have moved in…
I know the trout are calling but I’m thinking the Deschutes River can wait, while the Chinook Salmon Fishing is on!
Since we know the Salmon are going to continue up river it seems wrong to stop fishing for them… We have decided to extend are Salmon season, and chase the Oregon Chinook. We have added 3 more days to our season. May 10th, 11th, and 13th. We are headed to the Santiam, one of my favorite rivers to Salmon, and Steelhead fish in Oregon.
Ok guys 3 more days have just opened up. If you have not fished the Santiam you will love it. If you have had the opportunity to fish it in the past then you know what I mean when I say it is one of the most beautiful watersheds in Oregon, and only an hour from Portland.
Gives us a call and lets chase the Oregon Chinook Salmon together, on the Santiam… 🙂
