We have almost completed our Deschutes Trout and Grande Ronde Trout seasons, we have been on the water 46 out of the past 48 days. The salmon fly hatch was as good as I’ve seen in years. May weather was outstanding then came June. I think the word June must mean “rain and wind“. We had a lot of unfavorable weather in June because of this we did have some great may fly hatches. The report from the Deschutes ~ fishing still remains quite good.
Our first two Grande Ronde trips we battled high cold water, the river was beautiful as ever but fishing was slow. Our third trip June 30-July 2nd was quite good. The river was still on the high side about 4000 csf but fishing was excellent. On one day we landed a rainbow trout that was an easy 25′ inches and 5 to 6 pounds, we have the entire catch on film and will post as soon as we can.
It was great to end our Grande Ronde season on a high note. The Grande Ronde is a hidden jewel and the most amazing trout fisheries I’ve seen when it is on. Since it is a natural free-flowing river controlled by mother nature it is hard to plan for perfect fishing but it’s always beautiful.
